I've read a little bit on IBM's CELL chip, the processor that will be in Sony's Playstation3 and many other devices when it premiers. Do you guys think that this chip could compete in Desktops?

That processor will not be to the capacity of the new xbox coming out with a 64bit interface

Is it built on a 32-bit architecture like older chips? What I had read of this thing was that it's capabilities were fairly different than a normal 32 bit chip, that it's main focus would be on graphical things.

I dont know, but IBM processors are very advanced right now.. If you pay enough, you can get IBM's 128bit processor... Only a couple mil

Which CPU is that?
You are speaking about 16 Mega Tera Bytes per CPU.

I've heard that each cell will be around 150,000Mhz each or somthing, and the PS3 will hold 3 of the beasts

150GHz?

Yes, IBM has a 128bit out not for personal use but for coperate.. Viacom has one... 3 terabytes of harddrives

1st, what is the chip's name?
2nd, no one has or needs more than 16 Mega Tera Bytes per CPU.

I dont know the name. and no, you wouldnt find it on their website.. IS FOR CORPERATE.. If you have 7 million dollars, sure, go buy one for yourself...

Oh.
I see.
So they just made it to say, yeah, we can do it.
Ok.
Because we shouldn't see 128-Bit CPUs until around 2030 according to old Moore.

I trust you.
I am just saying we won't see large scale distribution until around 2030.

Anyone know anything about Nintendo's project Revolution (The next Nintendo Game system) I do know one thing, it will be heavily multiplayer, and it will be far superior to the gamecube mainly because the DS will be able to peform better then the gamecube.

In my opinion, Nintendo should drop it's console properties and focus on handheld and 3rd party development. The gamecube was a failure, their games were all that kept it alive. Had Microsoft had mario, that little purse would have been done. They continue to follow their single-player focus, not offering any solid plans for online mulitplayer and instead focusing on costly, impractical connections with their handhelds. They will go the way of Sega when Xbox 2 and PS3 come out.

I think Gamecubes problem was the intent Nintendo had witht he Gamecube. Gamecube had everything it needed for multpilayer just Nintendo never developed it like PS2 and XBox. so nintedo dropped, i don't think Nintendo should never drop their consol, this was just a mistake by nintendo. Oh just a little history thing, the reason Sega got killed in the consol division was it consol the Sega Saturn i think was supposed to be realesed before the PS1, but Sony rushed PS1's release and becuase of that early release Sega got crushed big time. I'm surprised the Dreamcast didn't pick up since it was released i think a year before PS2 and was by far the most advanced system.

Sega was crushed by Playstation first with the PS1. The Dreamcast was a cool system with some good games, just not enough to keep it going. Nintendo has been working hard to keep up releases on it's system, but developers are jumping ship to develop for PS2 and Xbox. Exclusive games like Metroid and Resident Evil kept that system going despite it's lack of online functionality and mature games.

I know Revolution will be just as Multiplayer as everything else, just need software backing, but i really want to see what kind of graphics the next generation will produce, here is one pointless but quick stat, the gamecube had the fastest loading time. the gamecube i've noticed is by far the most portable of all the systems i mean battery pack and screen all together is pretty small.

sorry and correct me if im wrong, but thats the Xbox 2 thats running the 3 64 bit processors from IBM... one of them is for the video function, one is for the fine processing and the other is for processing the I/O and processing the processed info from the video processor and accepts the fined processing so ive read

I heard PS3 will have around a Terebyte of power with those cell processors.
Who knows how much Xbox 2 will have.

OK. First thing first. Not to be mean, but All of you people are b.s. out of your A**. And there
are 128 bit cpus out there. And 150 GHz is physically impossible with our current materials used to make processors. 1.5 tera herz is b.s.
Infact, the worlds fastest computer is only .7 ghz, with a sustained performance of 70.72 Teraflops.
Eat dust.
http://www.research.ibm.com/bluegene/
note how that is a press realease with actuall benchmarking

1. THEY ARE NOT 7 MILLION DOLLARS, which is the estimated price of a 128 bit processors that are ibm type. Even if it exisited, Which is clearly doesnt, which in case prove it if it did, which amazingly you dont know the name or the website, and even if you knew the company, apparantly they wouldnt want to put everyone to shame by putting it on their website.
2. 128 BIT ARCHETECTURE PROCESSOR HAVE BEEN OUT FOR YEARS. ITS CALLED AN APPLE. apple had 128 bit processors for literally years when p.o.s. ibm development was robbing your money and barely stuggling with 32 bit.
I hope you people would quit talking about computers, cuase you need to study first, NOT FROM OTHER FORUMS Such as this, but from actuall manufactures and developers etc.

And game consoles are just hyped up graphics cards on steriods.
