On first inspection, I was surprised to notice that the X-Ray Thunder 9 is a HUGE mousepad. Slighty 2x larger than a stardard Walmart mousepad, the Thunder 9 has more than enough surface area. The dimensions are as follows 350mm×280mm×4mm. I was also surpised to find that it came with its own carrying bag. This can be helpful when transporting the mousepad to LAN parties while not scratching or otherwise damaging it.
The mousepad that I received was the standard black on black version. Other than the blue and red logo on the top right and the silver logo on the botom left, this mosuepad is perfectly black. The mousepad is also very smooth and sturdy compared to other Walmart pads. The smoothness and sturdiness is the result of the beehive design on the back of the pad. This design gives the pad strength while reducing weight. The smoothness of the pad can be recognized right away. The mouse glides over the pad with less friction than other pads.
This pad sticks to the surface that it's applied to. With other pads, sometimes there is very little friction between the pad and the desk. However, this pad does an excellent job of staying in place thanks to its dozen feet.
The pad does not have any sharp edges compared to other non-cloth pads, which means that you won't hurt yourself while opperating the mouse.
Overall, this is a quality mousepad, acceptable to use on laser/optical mice as well as ball mice. I could not notice a difference in performance between the rough and smooth surfaces, they both performed equally well on my mouse.
Pros:
Large
Sturdy
Lightweight
Works well with optical and ball mice
Cons:
Large (Can take up too much space if space is at a premium)
Expensive (Right now the price is $34.95 a pad, but with the holidays comming, I can see this being lowered to $24.95 a pad, much more reasonable.)
I recommend this mosuepad to anyone who is having problems with their's and wants a quality mousepad for gaming.
