Hi all.
I would like to know how to set up my WinXP machine to block a certain program from my non-administrative username.

I have two usernames on my computer: my administrative one, and one for the rest of my family to use on the occasions that they HAVE to use it for homework or something. Since my computer is the only one in the house connected to the Web, siblings use it now and then for research or what-not, the parents use it occaisionally for e-mail.

My sister uses this computer for her homework and it is REALLY annoying because she spends more time on AIM than getting her work done, so I would like to know how to block AIM on her username, while keeping the ability to use it on mine, since it IS my computer after all.

Sorry if I sound whiny, but she has been known on more than one occaision to hog the computer ALL DAY, no joke, or exaggeration. This hurts when college profs post urgent announcements that I don't get on time.

Any help on getting this done would be MUCH appreciated.

Right click on the executable for AIM.exe in the AIM folder and select the security tab, remove "Users" from it and any names of accounts, just leave Administrators. That way only Admins can run the program. Makes sure your sister's account is a limited one and yours and the admins are all password protected.

There's no Security option when I right click the .exe
I tried right-clicking the AIM folder, & I saw I sharing and security option, but the check box to "make this folder private" was grayed out.

Oh, never mind. I had to disable simple file sharing.

I just logged onto the other account and tried it out and it gives a box that says it's a missing shortcut that lasts until either cancel gets clicked or she clicks browse, and even if she knows where the program is, (which I highly doubt, lol) it brings up another box saying access is denied.

Thanks a lot!!! You helped me out.

I forgot about simple file sharing, I always turn it off after an install. Glad you got it working. You can do this for any applications you do not want her using.
