SATA problem

I am helpinga friend install a SATA HDD into an exsisting system. The system is running an IDE HDD currently and is operating just fine.
The problem is, I can't get the SATA drive to recognize in BIOS or in My Computer. If I leave the exsisting IDE drive hooked up and hookup the SATA.. boot the computer.. it isn't there. If I hit F4 and run the RAID utility it is seen through there, but nowhere else.
I have gone to Asus and downloaded the SII3112 driver/sata utility.. That isn't doing a darn thing either.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem or solution might be?
