I'd like to upgrade my system and was thinking about adding another 512mb Ram and either an Athlon XP3000+ or Sempron 3000 - is there any difference? Will I get much of an improvement over my current spec?
My current set-up is:
AMD Athlon XP2600+
MSI KT4V-L (MS6712)
ATI Radeon 9600XT 256MB
512MB Ram
Any suggestions would be appreciated - but I am on a bit of a shoestring budget!

You get 100MHz more in the core and 67MHz more in the FSB for the Athlon XP 3000. I would highly suggest it.
Sempron 3000 (Socket A) Specs
Athlon XP 3000 (400MHz FSB) Specs
Remember, the Semprons on Socket A are K7s.
K8 CPUs exist on Sockets 754/939/940.

Not sure my mobo will support the 400MHz FSB, think it will only cope with the Athlon with 333Mhz FSB(?)

Then get the
Athlon XP 3000 (333MHz FSB).
The retail and the OEM cost the same.
I'm assuming
this is your motherboard.
