getting Firewire to work with DV camera

I have a Sharp VL-NZ10 Mini DV camera and I want to connect it to my computer via firewire to record video from it. However, upon plugging it in nothing happens. I'm on windows ME ( 
), Ive tried installing various Video capture drivers..any idea what I should do?
