High-pitch noise coming from the mobo?

Greetings: I am a new member to this forum. I’ve been search for answer / solution for this mysterious sound coming from computer; I searched this forum and found some people experiencing similar issues”¦yet no one seems to have a definite solution. I’ll try to explain the issue as clearly as I can, given that my computer knowledge is novice at best, so please bear with me. :D Here’s the deal: when my PC is doing graphic-intensive tasks (running certain flash websites, loading and browsing porn pictures), I hear some kind of high-pitch noise coming from the motherboard. In my opinion, it sounds a lot like a rattle snake (w/o actually physical rattles). I tried to pinpoint the source by swapping ram modules, graphic card, HD, I even bought a new power supply; none of those items create the noise, which leave me with only CPU and motherboard. My system: P4 3.0 GHZ Prescott (I know”¦) Asus P4C800-E Deluxe 1024 MB Corsair XMS DDR Nvidia 6800 GT Soundbalster Audigy 2 PSU : Antec (the one with detachable power cables) Someone from another thread mentioned that CPUs could make some static-like noise when it is under heavy load, is it true? Honestly I can live with the noise; I just want to make sure nothing is broken or dieing. Thanks in advance!

The harder a computer is worked, the warmer it will get, unless there is proper cooling systems in place. The noise you are hearing is either the case fans or the CPU fan spinning very fast in order to cool down the CPU. You are allowing the computer to get too warm, and over time this causes damage. In addition, you have a very nice video card there. Heat will kill that to. Make sure the fans are dust free, and you should have at least one 80mm fan as case intake(front fan), and one as exhaust(rear). The top of any computer should feel somewhat cool to the touch. If it feels warm, theres a problem. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response MawDuce! Somehow, that infamous noise has dialed down drastically in the past couple days. I tried to reorganize the cables in the case as well as redistributed power sources for the peripherals. Someone from this board mentioned that the PSU might make some noise when it is working too hard. Well, I guess either the above procedures cured the noise issue or it’s simply gone. I am sure I will not miss it though
