Hi, I've been having some trouble switching my pc on. Yesterday, my modem was playing up. It's a cable modem and the line kept going down and then coming back on. When this happens, and the pc is turned off, it turns the pc on. To stop it doing this while I was at work, I pulled the power cable out of the back of the pc. When I got home, I plugged the cable back in but the pc won't turn on. I've tried pulling the whole thing apart, and reassembling it which didn't work. Tried clearing in the cmos which also didn't work, and I've also tried using different power cables and different plugs on the wall. I can't help but think it might be a problem with the power supply, but there is one thing which might suggest that's not the problem. When I plug the power cable into the back of the pc, there is a light on the motherboard in the ethernet port which lights up for a split second, so there is definately some reaction from the power supply albeit a very short one. Has anybody had a similar problem, or does anyone know what is going on? Please Help!!!!! Thanks, wapdoggie. BTW, I have a P4 1.7G and Gigabyte 8S648FX-RZ mainboard.

Why don't you give this a try, unplug all drives, remove all cards leaveing just the connectors to the mother board. See if you can power up, IE. get fans running. If you can't get the fans running I would look at the power supply, if they do run shut down and plug in on device at a time and repeat the process. A bad drive or card could pull down the power supply, and if you don't have a multi meter this is easy way to troubleshoot
