Won't auto-boot to hard drive

This is the first for me - My wifes PC, (Windows XP OS), won't auto-boot to the hard drive after a restart. It will go to a black screen ith a long horizontal cursor blinking at the top right corner. This happens even when the PC comes out of stand-by mode. The only way I can get it to boot once one of the two above happens is.... F10 and select what to boot too, (which I select the hard drive). My first guess was a bad boot sector but I ran a chkdsk and no errors were found. Any advice?

Just a thought , did you check the BIOS settings. Something may have been changed in the boot order, you may want to check and see if "C" drive is selected.
