I just built my first computer (athlon64 3800, asus a8v deluxe, radeon x800 xl 256mb, audigy 2 zs, 1gb ram, 160gb seagate SATA hd) and when I try to install windows xp it can't find my hard drive. I loaded the SATA drivers that came with my mobo by pressing F6 but it still can't find the hard drive. Finally out of desperation I tried to install windows 98 and it worked. I got the computer up and running but then I reformated the hard drive because I don't WANT windows 98 I WANT WINDOWS XP.
I don't know if this is the right forum to post this but please help.

Ok just a little confused here, when you installed 98 did you install it on the SATA drive? One thing you have to make sure of, and that is you must have the correct drivers on a floppy dick before you start setting up you're SATA drive. From what I see in the ASUS web site this is the driver you need.

Get back to us and let us know if this helps setting up the SATA drive.

make sure the jumpers are set correctly, check in the bios what format the harddrive is formated to. if it isnt the correct (FAT32etc.) then reformat the HD

Just a little note, the SATA drives I have worked with don't have jumpers. SATA drives hook up with a single cable.

i have a seagate 160 sata hd too. and had that same problem. all i did was hit that f6 button like u and try to install the seagate drivers (it fails) then let windows install defualt raid drivers and then it worked. seagate drivers dont work for some reason.
