In a server when you have redundant power supplies and they both have power cords plugged into them are they both actually drawing power? Or is one power supply on "stand by" and only draws power if the other one "dies".
I've also seen the term "hot plug redundant power supply" is this something different?

I have never seen a PSU with dual power function. One might be the power for your monitor and the other one from the AC main.

If one power fails to operate, the other will continue to operate, the secondary will draw minimal power in till needed. Hot swappable is a power supply that you can pull out while the computer is powered up, you don't need to shut down.
