i found this thing on the Apple website comparing their G5 systems to intels and AMD systems, surely that cant be as good as they say they are. I know that video/picture editting has always been the strong point of iMacxs but still, 98% faster. Power Mac G5 Performance

I seriously doubt that it's more powerful than AMD's X2 chips...And apple did their own test on their own computers. To me, that bar chart thing looks nothing like an official test...

Yeah, I thought it looked a little... 'suspect'. And i think I read somwhere in the small print that they weren't using the same software for the windows and the Mac PCs, obviously they will need to have some variation on the code but for video editing etc, they could at least use a program thar is available on both OS.

I agree...you can't compare the test results if the program tested is different on each machine... You wouldn't be able to compare results from Windows Movie Maker on a PC with Adobe Premiere Pro on a Mac. Have there been any other comments on the Power mac G5? I'll see if there are some in my computer magazine... I personnaly wouldn't follow those test results on that Mac page though...

Having said that (I read a bit more the other day), they do have dual processors, 64-bit and running at 2.7GHz..... oooh, shame it's a Mac.

Heh. they should have used adobe premiere on both. But there is no way that its 98% faster than a dual opteron 2.6 machine. And showing a single p4 at 3.6 beating the said dual opterons? Pshh.
