PC won't start - I think I set fan shutdown too low

I heard a humming noise from the CPU (motherboard) fan so i tried to set the fan alarm to have pc shutdown if it got too hot. It appears that I set it too low so the pc turns on for 4 to 5 seconds and shuts down. All I want to do for now, is get back in and reset the shutdown instruction to default ("Disabled" I think). But ... how can I get back in to do that? Thanks for any help. Dan.

If you can only get 4 or 5 seconds as you say, open the case and remove the battery for a few minuts. This will reset the BIOS to the default setting, you should be able to replace the battery and resart . PS unplug the computer too.

Thanks, will try

Thanks. I will try the battery. If I am correct about the problem, then it should work fine. If it doesn't work, then I know I have another (more serious) problem.

Thanks a LOT!!! taking the battery out did the trick. Of course, I forgot to turn off the power on the first try so that was kind of depressing at first. Now I need to change the motherboard fan--it works, it's just making noises. THANKS AGAIN!!!
