Proxy Servers through Router

Hello,
I have a router that is between the computers I manage, and our connection. For security reasons I have been trying to use proxy servers, however, I cannot get them to work.
Would the router be blocking the ports used by the proxy connections?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
KevinC

proxys are not my field of expertise so if someone can educate me on proxys too please do. Umm do you HAVE to use a proxy?
just open up a LAN.

The router connects by LAN to the ISP. I still have a public Ip address. I was wondering if I could connect either one computer to a proxy or the whole network.
Thanks,
Kevin

Proxies can get you in trouble sometimes due to the fact that most are overseas, and hackers like to use them. Normally, one would just use a firewall of some sort to protect them, but if you absolutely need proxies, you should call your isp and talk to them about it.
