Please Help Me

I just got my computer today after long days of waiting. It won't turn on... I press the power button and nothing happens, no sound at all. The monitor works fine connected to the same power source... but the computer just won't turn on.
Please help with suggestions, this is extremely frustrating.

where the power cord plugs into the back of the computer, is the switch on 1 or 0? It should be on 1

Well I know the cord isn't bad, the lights sort of flicker when I plug it in. I have no idea what to do. Is there anything I CAN do?

probably faulty power supply, or power supply is not capable of running all components, maybe you need a highe power supply, but like ccb056 says, return it, could end up blowing something, also check if near the 1-0 switch there is a 110v-220v switch, don't move it, just let us know where it's set to

I've got a thermaltake 480 watt powersupply in it, I thought it would be sufficient.

ok, 115 is near 110, but I'm not sure where it should be st to...I know in Mexico where I live everything has to be around 110, I don't know where it should be set to where you live, U.S? Get informed before trying or you could really damage your computer

480 watts sounds like maybe enough, depends how much hardwrae your pc has, like cd, dvd roms, floppy, sound card, video card, hard drives, all these add up to quite a bit of voltage, you will have to check with a pro if you're not sure, better and safer to return it, or call their support line

I don't even want to try it for fear of royally destroying my computer. This is just irritating. I waited three weeks to receive the computer, I get it and it doesn't turn on. I ordered from cyberpowersystem.com which I heard nothing but good things about.
What kinds of things do you need to know to be able to tell how many watts I would need in my power supply. Off the bat I have an nvidia 7800 gt in it.

I know it's irritating, be patient, this happens even to the adanced user, mostly when they build their pc's, sometimes things just don't run as expected, mostly it's always something very simple, but don't try to turn your pc any more because all this on off can cause bad damage also, to see how much voltage you need you will have to google up every part of you computer to see how much electricity it sucks and add it all up, even RAM and processor, fans, also monitor uses a bit to get the on off signal, think of every part, then go to every part web site (if you don't have spec sheets for these parts) and check out voltages.
Be patient with yourself, remeber this happens to everyone, that's why we are all here to begin with.

Ok, thanks. I just got the computer today and I was excited then it was this huge letdown, I'll call the service line tomorrow, I'm too tired to deal with it now.

Sounds good, when your tired you wont achieve much, I konw the turn down how it feels specially after a long wait, let us know what happened so we also learn a bit...

oh, just for kicks, you can try switching the 1-0 switch to o then back to 1, sometimes they have a breaker that has to be re-activated, try it, but remember not to move the 115-220v switch.

Leave the switch at 1 you don't want to use the 220 volt setting. The best you can do is if the case opens easy, check the connectors. Make sure they are pushed on securely, motherboard, drives, ect. IF you can't turn it on get a RMA and return it.

Ok, thankfully I have an NZXT Nemesis case, really easy to open. What is an RMA?

RMA = Return Materials Authorization
I assume it is a new computer, so if you don't find a loose connector, or something obvious, you will need to call them and tell them you want to return and get one that works.
If my assumption is wrong let us know we'll try and walk you through a repair.

Oh, they better let me return or I'll become belligerent. It already shipped later than it was supposed to and I really need a computer because I just moved. It took them a day to process my 1500 dollars out of my bank account, they better get this fixed quick.
As far as the connectors, I am not exactly sure what I am looking for but everything looked ok inside. It just went through quality control a couple days ago, I would assume part of quality control would be turning the system on...
I'll be calling them here in a couple minutes.

Ok, well I reconnected something on the motherboard so now my panel fans are on along with the blue neons that go with them, but the power supply fan and the heat sink fan both aren't on.
The green led on the motherboard isn't lit either. I'm just going to find out what I have to do to send it back on monday. I don't what else to try.

Sent my computer back to California on Monday (I'm in Ohio) They are paying for shipping to and from their place, and promised me a completely working computer upon return in about two weeks.
Well, thank you cyberpowersystem.com, my $1,500 gets me a completely functional computer in just under a month and three weeks!
On another note, while I am a bit sour about this whole thing, I've heard nothing but good about Cyber Power, and I understand that with any business things go wrong and you can't always be perfect.
