I've gone into Disk Manager because my disk D: has disappeared, and in Disk Manager it says that the drive is unallocated, and it doesn't know if the drive is Basic or Dynamic, thus it can not see the drive. This is a big problem -____________- How do I allocate my drive? I've done it before but I'm not sure what to do. I tried the convert wizard and the convert wizard gives me an error. It tells me to restart the manager and try again (which doesn't do anything). I'll tell you how this happened. One day I was playing The Sims 2, and then I went to sleep (leaving my computer on as I do every night), now when I woke up, the hard disk no longer worked for some strange reason, and so yeah.. >____>;;;

What happens when you boot up, do you see it on the post? If you do you maybe able to recover the files, if not the drive may have died.

Yes I do see it on the startup list, and it is in the Bios.

Try and run chkdsk and see if you can fix the files with it . See this link http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315265 If you haven't run a virus scan I would run one first, then do the chkdsk, try it from the Windows Explorer. The disk required is invisible in My Computer and anything other than device manager and disk manager.. It won't work this way.. Also, my virus protector is on the drive that isn't working, so if I try to run it it just says the needed files are missing.

I think that something wiped out the master boot record on the "D" drive. Now the question is do you have a lot that you need to save on "D", if not then the easiest would be to reformat "D" If you need to save the information then you need to have enough space on "C" to save the image file that you will need to create. You didn't list any spec's on the computer so I assume, you are running XP, what about file structure, FAT32 or NTFS? You can get free virus software here http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 I would suggest you download it and do a scan just in case. Then if you want to see if the files can be recovered go here and download this http://www.stellarinfo.com/download.htm Get the Stellar Phoenix FAT & NTFS one run it and see if you can recover any files, let me know what happens

I have about 300mb of space on C:, and I get memory leaks every day. Backing up definitely isn't going to work. I've tried AVG and it doesn't install. At the end of the installation it encounters an error and rolls back (I tried it again also)... Here is something a little more detailed. My drive was unallocated the first time I plugged it in. Of course I did the usual and right clicked and clicked "New Partition", and created one. Now I have about 11GB of files stored on that disk, and there IS a partition on it, but now that it is unallocated again and I can't create a new partition (I don't want to hear about deleting and recreating the partition, I'm totally not interested), I don't know what to do. It won't see the type of disk it is, and I'm not sure which is was before this problem arose. I think it was Basic. Anywho, the convert type wizard doesn't work either. It allows me to choose to initialize and convert the disk, but then it tells me that it can't do it. I spent $90 on this new HDD just around New Years with my Christmas money, I'm 14 and I can't get a job, I would if I could. There is no source of money for me and my father makes quite good money but is a greedy ass hole and is not willing to share. The only thing he ever buys me is art supplies, and that is only once a year, and it ain't much. Let's see if you can come up with something suitable for my situation. I'll be waiting. I don't mean to sound unappreciative, I'm sorry if I am.

This is not a duplicate of that.. Right now I would question your literacy... The other post was made for something completely different. Also, if one of the posts were to be closed I'd prefer it to be the other one since the problem issued in that post has already been taken care of... The two posts have nothing to do with eachother..
