Networking Problem

Whenever I start up my computer (which is behind a router), it takes a few minutes for the Internet to begin working. Why?

its taking a while to get a dynamic ip assigned, setup static ips

Don't you have to pay extra w/ bellsouth to get a static IP?

He means a static lan ip.

Like 192.168.1.100

no, your router's ip is most likey 192.168.1.1
go into your router and disable dhcp server
now, go into your network properties and assign a static ip address to the tcpip service and dns servers

No, if I dsiable DHCP linux internet won't work.

ok, well, just setup static ip on windows, the linux will have to suffer

Password: admin (these are the factory default settings btw)
