Well, AMD had a big day today.
With the release of these CPUs, AMD polishes the K8 series.
The Athlon 64 FX-53 outperforms the Pentium 4 3.4GHz EE in a majority of tests says Anandtech and TomsHardware.
The only problem is the price tag: $799.
Well, you do spend $200 less on it compared to the P4 3.4GHz EE.
All in all, I think AMD should make a cheap Socket 939 so we can all enjoy it.
Also, only the FX series can overclock multiplier.
Too bad for us overclocking guys.
The good news is the 8GB/s HyperTransport (Dual Channel PC4000).
Socket 754 will become the value socket (Athlon XPs).
Socket 939 will become the mainstream and high end socket (Athlon 64s and Athlon 64 FXs).
Socket 940 will remain the workstation and server socket (Opteron 100s, 200s, and 800s).

I am sure you will be able to increase the core speed of the A64's alot like they do now. Its just the multiplyer is locked and only unlocked on the FX chips.

That was the Athlon XP.
Update: Huge response, NewEgg now carries all of these except the FX-53 (939). You can get the FX-53 (939)
here. If you want a socket 939 motherboard, I could only find one at
this one place. With the new socket comes a new retail box. This time, it looks even more awesome!

AMD uses their style to show the K8s off.
It is a marketing scheme.

NewEgg now has the Athlon 64 FX-53 (Socket 939).
It costs the same as the Athlon 64 FX-53 (Socket 940): OEM-$799.00, Retail-$811.00.
