Hey anyone and everyone,

My dad was working on his computer at work a little while back, and he said that a message popped up saying "something" and he clicked "OK".

Now I've already beaten up on him for just clicking OK without reading what it said, but what happened was his keyboard stopped repeating letters. What I mean is when I type "Zoo, deer, poodle" it takes a while because I have to pause between the double letters. The computer just doesn't allow two of the same letters to be typed beside one another unles another key is hit first.

Also, it won't do backspaces. I've tried a few things, but it is a BIG annoyance to have to go back and change everything because it won't type right, and even more so because it won't go back right!

I'm hoping SOMEONE can help me out here, if this has happened. If I hold down the letter "s" or any letter it just types it once instead of repeating until I let it go.

If anyone knows what my dad may have pushed, or agreed to, please respond so I can fix it up for him. Thanks in advance!

If you can, just reformat.

I had a pop-up show up on my screen a few times, but mine was "Sticky-keys" related.

I'm not sure if he allowed/disallowed Sticky-keys if that would have any thing to do with it or not.

Have you tried to manually go to the Control Panel and set the repeat rate for striken keys?

Not sure about your motherboard.. but mine has something called Typematic Rate Setting. This setting/field enables or disables permission to change the rate of keystroke registration and display. By default, the rate cannot be changed. Change to Enable to make settings in the next field. (the above statement was taken from my Asus A7N8X-E manual)

Yeah, it could have either been sticky keys or a spyware popup. I would download and install and update and run these two programs to get rid of any spyware which could be causing the problem:
Spybot
Ad-Aware

Yeah, press Shift five tiems and press deactivate

Thanks guys, I've tried uninstalling and that didn't work. He has the Elite Logitech cordless keyboard if that makes a difference. But I just talked to him and he says that it's like a one second delay between letters.

So if I type two of the same letters in a row you have to wait for a second before you can type the second of the same two letters (if that makes sense) as well as the Enter and Backspace keys. If you just hold one thing down then it won't repeat, you have to wait a second before any double letter retypes. (talk about annoying!)

So I'm not sure if the delay helps anyone know what the problem is. I'll try to d/l those Spyware things and see if they help. Once again thanks so far, and thanks for anything yet to come!

you could open control panel then open keyboard settings, in there should be some settings for delay and repeat rates, fool around with those and see if that helps.

Check the BIOS for typematic settings.. they should be disabled.

If it's wireless, try replacing the batteries.
