my computer won't boot!

okay this morning i was starting my computer up to play WoW (world of warcraft) and after a while it just shutdown or crash (happens all the time) but this time when i reset it, it took me alot of pushes to the power button to start up so i just left it idle looking if it will occur again, so it did but this time no matter how hard i try or how many time i press the power button it won't work so i looked inside my cpu and everything looked fine, and btw whenever i re-plug the power cord it would start up but the monitor is blank it will look like it is loading then it will shutdown immideatly. 2 things i think happened: -cpu overheated -the power button is locked.... -ps broke... And cpu specs: AMD athlon xp proccesor 2300+ Nvidia 256 mb video card 384 mb ram (128mb and 256mb)both DDR 40 gb hard drive and its made by eMachines bought it from future shop canada

Well, think you should check your power unit. But it'll be better if you check all your hardware. So you need another working PC in which you culd put in by turn: Video card, ram, HDD, Mother board. It better do in specialized place. Good luck!

eMachine is known for failing Illsan power supplies (wonderful engineering from this Korean Co.) If it were any other OEM I would suspect the bad cap issue, or the common Windows Power Mgt vs Bios Power Mgt conflict (turn one off and problem could disappear) Since you didn't give specific eMachine model number I can't be more specific as to whether the MB has any common issues. *note* eMachines part provider located @ http://www.PCFactoryOutlet.com has updated me recently that MBs should be replaced in conjunction with the power supply for this problem, though I have been unable to verify the issue, generally the MB was bad in the 1st place if there is any issue. I think you are safe in simply trying another PS.

I agree with the Power supply also, and I would buy nothing but an Antec. http://www.newegg.com is my choice of places to shop at for a replacement.

I'm working on two e-machines that are doing the same thing. (T-1140 & T-1150) I've tried everything! ... switched power supply, processor, ram, hard drive, monitor, even bypassed the power button, to no avail! When you turn the computer on, the power light comes on, and the processor fan runs but they won't even boot into the bios, the monitor indicator light simply blinks as if it's getting no signal! I believe the condition was progressive because the second machine would initially boot into windows XP, but then crash (even in safe mode) for no apparent reason! I even replaced the motherboard in one machine and it did the same thing! ... help! (the power supplys that I used for testing were only 200 - 250 watt ... is this enough to boot a 1.3 Ghz processor?)

OK, I found the problem! This morning I just assembled the new motherboard on my bench (without the case) with the hard drive, power supply, ram, and processor ... it worked! Then I re-assembled the same parts in the case ... it wouldn't boot!!! Then it dawned on me, the only thing different was that I installed the modem. Sure enough, I removed the modem, re-installed the original motherboard and everything worked fine! I ran the machine for two hours with no problem, then assembled the second machine the same way ... no modem ... it also worked OK! For those of you having the same problems, freezes and unexplained crashes .... the modem was a Conexant MA56OC1 - REV.1.3 CX11252-11 Hope this helps someone!
