xp doesnt recognize cd/burner

hey, I had a cd burner and a dvdplayer in my computer, today I removed the cdburner and inserted a dvdburner instead, I checked the back of the both players, they are identical, (that littel thing that jumper the player?) and I just used the same cables as for the cdburner, but the computer wont recognize the units, they dont appear in the my computer section.. what is wrong? any ideas? thanx!

will the device work in any other computer?
