Disk Drive / Boot Failure : System Halted

Post by th_kyur »

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi . I just bought a new dvd drive today but when i hooked it up to my comp and plugged in all the cords and pressed power on the comp , It started to load up then it went to a black screen and a " _ " started flashing . After about 2-3 mins another black screen said " Boot Failure " . I assumed it was the drive so i plugged back in the old cd drive ( worked fine ever since i started using the computer ) and it basicly did the same thing ! Would anyone know what might be wrong with the drives or my computer and would u please be able to help me out ! Oh by the way it only does this when i try to plug in the drives and start the cpu up , Other then that it works fine ! Here is what drives i am using . New DVD Drive : LG Super Multi : DVD Drive ( MODEL : GSA - 4081B ) Old CD Dive : Samsung CD-ReWritable ( MODEL : SW-216BEA ) TY for all replys ! I do hope somone can help me .

Check the cable , make sure it is in place on the motherboard, are you plugged into the right spot on the cable?
If I could remember all I have forgotten, I would be a smart man.

Jumper problem

Post by mitchb13 »

It should to me like you have 2 drives set to be master or 2 drives set to slave? If you have the jumper on the new drive set to automatically, change it. Set the new drive as a master or slave. If that doesn't work I have more questions. Is that drive hooked up on the same cable as another drive? How are the other drives setup? If you go into BIOS (setup), do the drive show up when they are all attached?
