Celeron/300 beeping when the keyboard is connected
Celeron/300 beeping when the keyboard is connected
It's a Celeron 300 Mhz computer.
When the computer boots, after the memory test and the detection of the IDE drives, appears the message "CMOS checksum error" and I have to press F1 to continue. When I connect the keyboard, the computer starts beeping (2 beeps per second) and the keyboard is not working.
I used a new battery instead of the old one (which dropped from 3V to 0.3V) but this had no effect. Also, resetting the CMOS with the jumper doesn't have an effect, either.
The keyboard has a PS2 connector and is connected through a PS2-AT adapter. I checked the adapter and it is ok. I checked with 2 keyboards and both cause the beeps.
It seems the problem is with the mainboard.
Any suggestions welcomed.
Thanx!

Below is a table of the most common AMI, Phoenix and Award BIOS beep codes.
AMI (American Megatrends International) BIOS Beep Codes.
AMI BIOS uses beeps of the same length and pitch. The error is displayed as a number of beeps. For example, 4 beeps indicated a timer failure.
BEEP CODE MEANING POSSIBLE CAUSE
1 Beep (No video) Memory refresh failure Bad memory
2 Beeps Memory parity error Bad memory
You may have bad memory, did you change or addd anything?
If I could remember all I have forgotten, I would be a smart man.

The beeps are continuous, 2 per second, almost like when the computer freezes in DOS or win98 and you keep a key pressed and you hear continuous beeps. Only in this case the frequency is smaller and the leds on the keyboard are off and pressing keys has no effect. (I tried booting withouth the video card or memory and the beeps are different.) I tried with an AT keyboard and the same happens (as with the PS2 keyboards connected using an PS2/AT adapter).richh0323 wrote:Below is a table of the most common AMI, Phoenix and Award BIOS beep codes.
I didn't use the computer for a few months. I changed nothing to the computer. I'll check the AT keyboard connector on the motherboard. Besides this, I have no idea how to search for the source of the problem. Thanx!richh0323 wrote:You may have bad memory, did you change or addd anything?
