reformatting using external components
reformatting using external components
oookk here goes....
i have just bought a second-hand sony vaio c1vs laptop ( aka - mini sized ) and im having a few problems. its is dual booting to windows millennium and windows 2000. windows 2000 has no drivers loaded for anything (graphics, modem, sound, built in camera, ect ect) and i cant get it to run any! very frustrating being stuck to playing solitiare on a screen set to 640x480 16 colours when it should be at 1024x480!!!!
next we have windows millennium..... guess what? its the chinese version, arghh! it has all drivers loaded though and runs great - when you can get into it. for some reason 99% of the time it boots up fine, but nothing will come up on the screen (it stays black after the "loading windows" screen). this never happens with win2000 so it isnt a screen or backlight issue.
basically all i want to do is wipe the system, reinstall win ME (i have original disc) on the one partition, simple enough...
.... except being a subnotebook it only has an external cdrom (i have both PCMCIA and usb versions of cd drives). i dont currently have a external floppy, but will get one if necessary. i also have access to an external hard drive and have been told i could possibly just do it all using this? but im not entirely sure what to do.
PRO - i have the restore discs
CON - they are in chinese lol
so yea, thats basically it all laid out. i really like this laptop, it looks awesome! so i really want to get it going properly.
fire away any ideas, they are more than welcome!
thanks a million
