MSN Messenger auto-sign in issue

Post by dmod23 »

OK, don't tell me anything about checking a box in the options saying "enable auto-sign-in feature" or anything like that. I'm not a computer expert but not a n00b either. My MSN Messenger - reinstalled several times, as well as upgraded to the newest version - simply doesn't have an option to sign me in automatically. The checkbox isn't there when I sign in. Could this have anything to do with having an hp media center pc?

Is there like, a registry setting for this? Is there a way to fix this?

I know you said 'latest version', i take it that that would be 7.5? If you go to (when MSN is open, you have o be online to change the option) Tools -> Options -> Security and untick. "Always ask me for my password when checking in to... etc" If it is already unticked then I don't know, but you didn't say if you had looked through the options so.... meh.

Try this

Did you try unchecking that box? :) Try this Start-->Run-->regedit Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa Double click "disabledomaincreds" and set it to 0 Restart and let me know if that worked.

Thanks

Thanks a ton for your help, that did it. So do you know whether that was done by hp or not? That seems to be the case since several other small problems I've had/fixed occured only on my hp computers.

HP Question

Post by mitchb13 »

I don't know, but it's possible. Manufacturers tend to do strange little customizations to the operating system sometimes.

Dump msn messenger in the recycle bin and get anything else......miranda/trillian or whatever.....there are plenty to choose from......and you can get software to properly remove msn even though its claimed you cannot regards mike
