Windows XP my PC has died!! Please Help!

My Pc has died! it was all working okay last nite. this morning i switch it on and it starts up but then the screen jus goes black! i have alot of important stuff 2 me on it and really dont want 2 lose any of it im not very good with computers so cud any1 help me out please!!

I have 2 operating systems installed on my pc (long story, a mate put windows Xp on it and didnt remove 2000) wen it starts up it lists both windows 2000 and windows xp giving u seconds 2 pick an option, this has worked fine 4 months but now i wen i pick XP its jus a blank screen i've tried running xp in safe mode and dat doesnt work i can get into windows 2000 but nuthing really works on it i can see all my files from my 40gb drive but all my rewrite software is on xp so dunno how 2 save any of my important files and on two occasions 2day i havent bin able to turn my pc off without pulling the plug out I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE AS IM NOT VERY GOOD WITH COMPUTERS ALL HELP MUCH APPRICIATED

IF you have you're XP disk, boot from that and when prompted do a repair. This should get you back up on the XP side

OKAy i did the repair thing and it showed 1:C:/WINNT 2: D:/WINDOWS which installation would you like to logon to? so i select no.2 for win xp then it asks 4 the adminsitration password which i enter then it says D:/WINDOWS wasnt sure wot to put i tried typing D:/WINDOWS Logon but it jus went back to the options 1:C:/WINNT 2: D:/WINDOWS i also tried typing HELP and it comes up with a list of commands but i dont kno wot to do i tried typing CHKDSK and it came up with a very long list of stuff pretty much all of the list was disabled though ANY IDEAS ANYONE!!??
