NEED HELP TO COOL MY CPU

Hey Everyone, Just signed up for this forum. Am hoping to get some answers I have a Pentium 4 2.8ghz (hyperthreading enabled) Processor that I bought off of NewEgg.com. When I bought the product, the reviews said that it does run really hot and each reviews (all 192 of them) gave a different solution (expect for artic thermal paste) on how to cool this monster. Currently at Idle I run 56c When I load a big game (America's Army) I sometimes at 70c At temps like this, the room temp is usually 84f but when it is cooler my MAX (playing games) is like 65c or 67c I just today bought and installed another fan (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6811999013) and it seems to have made the idle a little bit better... I have the current fan config: 2 fans (one of which the one I just bought) on panel next to plugs and such in back at the CPU level (height wise) 1 fan underneath my AGP 128mb Nvdia card on the empty PCI slots 1 fan in unused drive bays (taped behind modified vent) I have the stock hs and fan on my processor and would like to know what I can do to bring my temps down for a REASONABLE price thanks a bunch. Ok... I have dug a little deeper on this forum and found some more of your suggestions... let me ask this... If I kept the stock HS and fan that I have (I am like the guy who only had 20 to spend)... and just used some artic silver thermal compound... would that be enough to solve my problem (maybe until christmas )... Also... this is probably a stupid question... but are my temps really not good? Let me know what you think... there are 16 views of my post... one (or more) reply(s) would help me solve my prob... There should be a fan slot towards the front bottom of the computer, put an input fan there; there should also be a fan slot towards the top-back of your computer, put an output fan there. Whatever slots are left, just use common sense, you should have a steady breeze flowing across the cpu at all times. If you decide to get new thermal compoud, make sure most of the old compound is removed.

The temp is a few degrees above the standard temp of 40 c, but the good news is at 50 c the processor can last about 50 years. The thermo paste may help some what, but the best bet is to keep the area around the processor clear of wires and cards. The best you can do is get a better case.

Hey Guys, Thanks for such quick responses to my previous post...This is kind a poll type question... Incidentally, in order to get these choices I not only took your advice, but also the advice given on the reviews of my cpu (on newegg, http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...N82E16819116170) Here are my (feel free to add to this list) hs and/or fan options, REMEMBER, obviously... some of these are better than others... but I have a TIGHT budget, I would rather spend 20 that 40 if it only means a difference of 3 or less degrees (fans in order of lowest to highest price): Thermaltake P4 SPARK7+ 70mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16835106032 This hs/fan got a lot of bad reviews... so unless someone has something really really good to say about it... I will not get this fan/hs ZALMAN CNPS7000B-ALCU 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16835118112 This is a lower caliber zalman... but still seems to get good reviews. ZALMAN CNPS7000B-Cu LED 2 Ball Blue LED Light Cooling Fan http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...N82E16835118119 This fan is the best bet in my opinion... just a little pricey... It has 2 (or more) reviews that say it brought a prescott down by 10 degrees celsius Scythe SCNJ-1000 CPU Cooling Heatsink,http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16835185122 This fan is more expensive than the zalman... but I found better reviews for the zalman... just giving this one a time to shine in a poll... (thanks to Shadowknight281 for this recomend ) Ok.... In conclusion, I hope to get some good feedback from you guys. The Thermaltake P4 SPARK7+ 70mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan, is good and will work for the money. I have a Thermatake case and my CPU has never gone over 38 c, and I have a 3.2 P4. The Scythe SCNJ-1000 CPU Cooling Heatsink is nice, but you still may need the optional fan, it all depends on you're case. If it's a tight case with minimual room and circulation you may be worse off that stock
