Drive is accessible but hardware wizard keeps popping up...
My girlfriend just bought a new Caviar Western Digital 120 GB IDE HD to install on her computer as a storage drive. There is a total of 1 SATA HD (OS - XP Pro), 3 storage IDE HD's (Storage - 3 including the new drive), and an IDE DVD burner. All of the drives are detected in BIOS and they all come up in the OS, but everytime the computer is rebooted the "New Hardware Detected" wizard pops up for the new drive. It does not find a driver for the new drive, but the drive is accessible.
Originally it would only let you select SIMPLE partition type with a DYNAMIC volume. It would not give the option to partition, but it would let you format.
We removed the volume and used DISKPART to convert it to a PRIMARY PARTITION with a BASIC volume. It now appears as the rest of the drives in disk manager and will now let you partition and format.
But, the "New Hardware" wizard still pops up.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
