What temp can an AMD reach?

Post by pathachio »

I was just wondering what sort of temperatures it is safe to let an AMD Athlon XP processor get to?

Temps

Post by Sumpin_Wong »

About a year ago I upgraded from the 1800+ to the 3200+, and the temperature difference what quite extreme. My 1800 was running at 91 degrees F, and the new Barton 3000 ran at 150's. I posted on the AMD forums and I was told that my Barton core was safe up to 180*F .. if you're not 150-160+ yet, keep on rockin and don't sweat it. AMD told me it was safe, but the warmer it gets the slower it goes, generically speaking. Cooler is obviously better.

hmm... thats strange. your 1800 was probably a palomino core, which runs much hotter than a barton.....

My 1800 is a Thoroughbred core.

Ah, ok. That would explain it. T-breds run a bit cooler than Bartons. also, your motherboard sensor may be misreading the CPU. but maybe not too, that just seems a bit warm.
