Dell Inspirion 6000 running slowly

Post by videl »

My b/f has a Dell insprion 6000, It dont run that great and it is from what I know it is somewhat new. He got it for college. Sometimes it will do tasks. But most of the time, Say I want to go online. I click on icons and sometimes nothing happens for a long time than it works, same thing with anything else theres a lot of delays to do something that should take just maybe a few secs, because it will lock up so much. I dont know what could be making it do that. It runs slow and it delays a lot of things. Anyone know what I can do to maybe speed it up or at least stop the delays? I run Adware, I looked into his startup. I want to know what else can I can do. Please help;) oh and the top of the laptop has like a magnet in it for some reason I dont know if thats bad for that kinda computer but it is just one spot too...weird!~

I happen to have that same kind of laptop. When I first got it, it was very slow too. The problem with mine was it had 256 megs of ram. I'm guessing that your friend's does too, so if that's the case, then learn how to use msconfig to disable services that you don't need, or upgrade to 512 megs of ram.

I already know MSconfig. I thought maybe it was his start files but what else do you think I should shut off? Can you upgrade a laptop?

There are some up grades you can do for a lap top, mainly RAM, and harddrive. One thing you can do is download and run Hijack this and post the log here, and someone will look at it.
If I could remember all I have forgotten, I would be a smart man.
