2nd SATA drive
2nd SATA drive
Hello,
Am just trying to finish up putting in new MB with a new HD that I bought. However I noticed that there is only one SATA power cord from the power source. I have the new HD into SATA1 and the old HD into SATA2 on the MB. I will plug my only power cord into the new HD but my question is will I need a second one for the old HD?
I am guessing yes, just making sure..and also kicking myself for not realizing this sooner!
Will those splitter SATA cords work for my purpose?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT...
i looked at my old power source (yea, wife's computer from ABS and it has been giving me headaches!! Replaced the power source first to troubleshoot a "not booting up" issue)
The old power source does not even have the black flat connector labeled SATA!! Do I need to hook up the new one?
Ok, just an update.
NOW the computer is booting up (Yay!) Line at top of screen says Fasttrak controller......and that no drives are associated with it. Then the obligatory "insert proper boot media and press a key" screen.
Now I can access bios.....the line that says ...fastrack controller 378....says that it is there.....but it can't find the HDs.
What am I missing to install?

You will have to check the driver disk for you're M/B. Depending on what type of controller chip you have you will have to have a driver disk on hand. The first thing you have to do is configure the BIOS, per the manufactures instructions. After you have set up the BIOS and made a copy of the drivers you can start to load windows. You will be asked if you need to install any drivers, if so to press F6. You didn't say what type of motherboard you have so I have included a link for installation on a Gigabyte M/B this will give you an idea how it works.

Yes they do make a power spliter for SATA's, I have one and they work. If you still have problems after this list you're spec's
If I could remember all I have forgotten, I would be a smart man.
