DVD+R Dual Layer

Post by MaTrIx2k2 »

Hey, does anybody know if there's gonna be a firmware for the Lite-ons dvd writers, to write the DVD+R dual layer dics, or if just like the Zebra patch did, a way to turn it into another? :?:

no, in order to support Dual Layer DVD writing, a new laser must be developed

The reason zebra's 411@811 patch worked so well is because the Liteon LDW-411s is the same as the 811s with the exception of the EEPROM and firmware

I've read that the DVD+R could be written by just upgrading the firmware, also for the DVD-R it's necessary, well that's what I read

yes, on some drives with only -r capabilities, they can be modded to have +r capabilities

but, dual layer discs are discs that have 2 physical layers of data stacked on top of each other, this requires a very precise laser and it is very improbable that the stock lasers in the 411s or 811s have this capability

Is the same laser that is used to read discs also used to write them? If so then I don't see why the laser, which reads dual-layer discs, wouldn't be able to also write dual-layer dvds.
