2800+ Barton = HoT

Post by Sumpin_Wong »

I built my wife a gaming computer this last Friday, and I'm sorta concerned for it's health.. lol It is currently running 55*c/131*f . Is that normal for a a Barton in the 2800 range?

I bought the retail version 2800+ and used the heatsink a that came with it, and installed a high rpm 60mm on it.
I have 2-80mm fans in the front of the case, drawing air in. 1-80mm fan in the rear blowing out, and the fans on the power supply.

In the next week or two I plan on putting a Swiftech on it.. but is it safe to run in the meanwhile?

It hasn't stalled, beeped or emitted smoke..

Its safe, but just dont oc it

If youre getting a new HS, I'd get a larger, quieter fan, and get Arctic Silver 5, AS5 makes a HUGE difference, just remember to use a THIN layer.

It matters if it is in a room dense with computers or that is hot.
My computer is in a dense room of computers and runs at 54C. Yet, I am running an overclocked XP 1800 (200MHz X10). If I were you, I would invest in this heatsink.

Currently the room is full of computers. My wifes brother came out for the weekend, so these are 3 puters running.. all side-by-side.

The room temperature is between 70-73*f, which is warmer than it normally is. I did use AS5, just hoping after the break-in period it drops a few degrees.

Thanks for the input fella's :D

Not sure if the Artic Silver 5 finally "set-up" or what the deal is, but now it's running at 43c/109f.

Still using the stock HS. I think the Artic silver finally reached maximum effectiveness. I haven't changed anything else, so that leaves me to believe that's the culprit.

If you aren't experiencing problems with that temp, just don't worry about it. Dont oc it though.

We are about out of Artic Silver 3.
I can't wait for when we get the #5.

Artic Silver 5 is definetely worth the money. In the past few years I have used nothing but AS3. AS3 has a thermal conductivity of 200,000, while AS5 has a thermal conductivity of 350,000. And please believe me when I tell ya all.. IT WORKS great!
