Maxtor HDD

Post by Sumpin_Wong »

I helped a friend build a computer this weekend, and had some very odd situtations arise.

He used the AMD 2700+ CPU and the Asus A7N8X-E(Deluxe) mobo. He bought a Maxtor 80-g SATA HDD.

The motherboard would not recognize the HDD at all, at first. He installed his old WD 20g (IDE ATA100) and installed Windows Xp Pro. After getting WinXp installed the MAxtor showed up in the device manager, but it lists it as a SCSI drive... Any idea why? I'm thinking at this point the HDD is defective, since it would not accept a WinXp install, nor would the mobo detect it.

Thoughts?

Hmm, you say the maxtor drive works now, once you have the wd drive wih windows on it? Can you see the maxtor drive in BIOS?

Maybe the reason it's showing as scsi is that windows xp came out before SATA.

Or maybe the port(where you plug in the controller) is dead... Some of the ASUS mobos are known for that
