it is being used by another person or program

Post by ccb056 »

I get this error message frequently: "cannot delete it is being used by another person or program" I have all programs and windows closed, and it still gives me the error. If I restart or relogin, the error goes away, but it comes back with another file or folder. It has been doing this for a while (2 or 3 months). Yes, its been that long since my last reformat.

Anyone else getting this problem?

Windows XP Corp, WD 120GB Special Edition drive

Press Ctl+Alt+Delete go to Task Manager and then go to Processes and see what is running... Close the programs that look suspicious.. Also, this may be a virus... Try checking for that.. And, it could be one of your brothers that are connected to your networked screwing around with you!

Ok, I've reformatted and it seems to have gone away, it may have been spyware related.

If you are having this problem, I would suggest you install and run spybot and adaware to get rid of any spyware.

If you have this problem, one more reason to switch to Linux.

Or you can use anti-adware and anti-spyware software like ccb056 suggested. Sure you will have less of it is you run Linux but that is because it is a smaller target. People only go after the big operating systems like Windows. As long as you download and run these softwares, Windows will be safe.

I recommend Ad-aware SE - I find it picks up loads of things spybot hasn't. Still, Spybot is still a good piece of software...
