Well, this quad Opteron king motherboard has been released.
It is an improvement over the first Tyan Opteron quad because of the memory capability.
The old one had only 10 RAM slots for 20GB of RAM. This one has 16 RAM slots (4 per CPU) for 32GB or RAM.
Of course Tyan has also released a rackmount to come with it.
More on the rackmount here.

I would love to have about 100 of these for SETI.
That would be 400 Opteron 850s (each at 2.4GHz).
960GHz of AMD64 power!

Just think, Dual core opterons are supposed to work with existing motherboards. That would be like 8 opterons Can you sense the power? THe onboard memory controler makes this possible i believe. If the memory controler was still in the north bridge a new chipset would probably be required. There are so many benefits of the integrated memory controler.
Well, considering Opterons can go up to 16-way per motherboard with the new nForce 3 250Gb Ultra Pro, dual cores on that is 32-way.
Also, dual-cores come 2005 (expect before K9s which come mid-2005).

Can you even admit that the Opteron 250 outperforms the top Xeon DP or the Opteron 850 outperforms the Xeon MP?
monte84 gave benchmarks of both.

maybe just a little, well yeah. For the time being anyway, Intel just does not have a good product out right now, there is just no reason to even consider Intel ATM, with the 3700/3800+'s out. I base my buying decisions on who has the best hardware, and right now that is AMD.
why not be the technology lover? Intel is kind of lacking in this department as of now. Just what is keeping you with them? The name? Its what you grew up hearing about, that you HAD to have Intel (i know i heard alot of that).

That is exactly what I was thinking.
You can either buy an Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz EE, or you can save $200 and get the fastest CPU around, the Athlon 64 FX-53 (Socket 939).

Yeah, 75C in a water cooling system is reliable. Talk about burn-outs. AMD CPUs last a lot longer than Intel's since they are cooler.

AMD has been in the buissness just as long (making them for Intel at one point, heh. Trusted by most Americans, well, considering most Americans are uneducated in computer, how would they know? The go to a store or buy from Dell, who just happen to mostly use Intel (or in Dell/gateway's case, only Intel) That hardly makes them a better company. Give facts, not just a statement you think of

the possibility of having dual core 4 way opteron mobo with 32gb ram does make me drewl(ah yes my crappy spelling) and i'm an intel lover. If only intel could at least get someone to do 4 way with there processors(not saying it will outperform but will give intel something to fight with) maybe create some kinda desktop version of PM but uses more power to get better performance and then make that 4-way
