Is my DVD/CD-RW drive broken?

Post by scm007 »

OK, here is my problem. I just got a new computer off the Internet, but when I got it home it didn't work. So I tried booting from the Windows XP CD and doing a clean installation, but the thing doesn't load completely. It gets to the blue screen and starts to load, but then at the bottom when it is loading the Kernel DLL, it encounters an error (missing file systemdd.sys) and I have to quit. I have reformatted the harddrive, cleared everything totally off, but I cannot get the thing to install. Is it my CD-ROM drive or something else??? Thanks!! Please respond ASAP.

Your cd rom drive may be busted, however I have gotten error's like this before and sometimes bad memory can cause it. Google for "memtest86" download and run it. If you get any error's then your memory is bad. I would also try a different CD reader and a different CD.
