cant use cd rom or dvd

cant use cd rom or dvd

im using windows xp and my cd rw and dvd just disapeared this morning the bios are set to auto and the drives arent in the device manager i opend up the tower and the wires are all connected in the right places can any1 help me :( thanx ;)

Make sure they are not diabled in the bios.. Also, make sure all jumpers in st correctly, IDE cables are connected to the device and the motherboard, and make sure the power is on the drives

already said everythings ok the bios are set to auto and the wires are connected right the power, the ribbon cable and the one going to the sound card any other ideas?

just swapped the cd roms to the primary ide and the hard drive to the secondary now the hard drive isnt working so im guessing theres something wrong with the secondary ide controller any sujestions anyone

Yes, your motherboard IDE might be dead... Make sure of that

Well, put connect a working device to it and if it dosen't work anymore than you know that the IDE port is dead

oh well its dead just put the hard drive in another computer and formated it and installed win 98 se then put the hard drive back in and its still not finding them just as well the warranty isnt expired :) take it in on saturday. thanx for the help neo ;)

You could get a pci card with ide ports of it.

That or purchase another motherboard
