anyone know of a way to connect my pc to my laptop without making a network or anything i need to buy stuff.so i can transfer files to my laptop.thanx ;)

Dell sells something like what you need.. I think it is called Intellimover or something

you will have to buy something to transfer files from a laptop to a desktop.

Sounds to me like you need a set of data transfer cables. As long as both PC and laptop have USB1.1 ports, it should work fine. I've never personally used oneof these cables, and I have no idea if there is any software involved.. or what the setup procedure is. But I do know people who have used them to transfer files to a new computer, and they said it worked great.

(the cables that are in the link are USB1.1, if you can find a pair of USB2.0 cables it would be a whoooole lot faster process)

if it has a NIC, just get a crossover cable.
