video game problem

Post by mrcool011 »

everytime i try to play a demo i download it wont work, the most recent one i downloaded was desert rats vs africa korps demo, when i try ot play it these messages show up

"the program require hardware T&L and stencil support(thus 32bpp desktop!) open windows failed" what does that mean?

and after i click OK it shows me this message "unable to initialize video subsystem! please update the driver of your display adaptor!" what does that mean and how can i fix this?

now i have a game called stronghold which is a few years old and it works fine but it doesnt have good graphics and doesnt need a new version of direct x.

Is the new game (Desert Rats vs. Africa Korps) running off of DirectX 9, and the older game (Stronghold) is runing from DirectX 7+?

Sounds to me like it is a compatability issue with your video card. T&L is texture and lighting. It is a good possiblility that your current video card is a bit out dated, and lacks the umph to play the newer games.

I don't know what operating system you are running, so I'll assume WinXP.

To update the video driver goto the device manager (MyComputer/properties/Hardware/device manager/display adapter)
When you right click the display adapter (video card) in the device manager, select "Properties". From the properties window you should have an option to update the video driver.

What OS do you use?
What video card do you have? Is it integrated, PCI or AGP? (make is more important than model)
Is this a newer computer, or a few years old?
