Sound Crackling/distortion problems

Post by blinky »

k to start im running
an ASUS nforce2 motherboard+amd athlon xp 3200+,1 gig of corsaid cms memory,80 gig wd harddrive, plextor 712a dvd burner, and a GIGABYTE 5950ultra. the problem i have is when i try to play a dvd/cd through the dvd-rom i get some kind of fuzzy/cracklin distortion...i dont kno if that is cause of my motherboard bein so close or if thats just common(its just an IDE cable no audio cables running between them)and then when i play diablo 2 fullscreeen it makes same kinda noise while playing ripped music through winamp. so if ne one could let me kno(if u guys kno) wtf is goin on and how i might be able to remedy the problem this would be great....and the pc is only 6 days old but running perfect(besides sound issues above).

oh yeah im using the onboard audio off my mobo.

Onboard audio IS the problem. It has to do with technical stuff.. like sampling rates and Mhz, and how many voice channels can be processed at once.

Try turning down the sound quality in the games, but your pretty stuck when watching a DvD. I'd recommend you get yourself a Soundblaster soundcard, and it doesn't need to be the best one. (wal-Mart sells one for $29.96.. my wife loves hers..lol)
