hardrive problem

i rescently bought a 120 western digital oem hgardrive from my local computer store when i got home formatted it then i installed it it says its an 111gig hardrive so i go into properties and it says that it is a 120 but like 10 gigs is used..... IS it locked from like the factory which takes away 9 gigs or is my drive just messed?

any help

Drives are normally like that.

Ex. My 40GB Western Digital says I have 37.2GB (~40 billion bytes).

I guess they use the ~x billion bytes in order to advertise for GB.

so can i fix this problem or do i just have to stick with a wasted 9.5 gigs?

It is not a problem.
You bought a 110.5GB hard drive. It is just advertised as 120GB.

yeah, its perfectly normal. My 120GB drive shows as 111GB.
