Will AMD Finally Rise Above Intel?

Post by Aggressor Prime »

Ever since the introduction of the AMD K8 series last year, Intel has started to go downhill. The K8 series was enough to stop AMD's downfall in order to start gaining some ground. When the K8s reached the home environment, computer commercials started using the Athlon 64 more often than the Pentium 4. And after the introduction of Socket 939, AMD is universally powerful with Dual Channel non-ECC DDR. Intel on the other hand has had many problems over this period. They first had to introduce the EE series in order to fight the FX series. Next, they reached a GHz barrior with Northwood and had to use the Prescott which made many problems in of itself. From heat to low IPC, the Prescott really hurt Intel. Then there comes DDR2 and its low efficiency. With all the delays and flaws, Intel has been losing the market. Also, with the delay of 4GHz from Intel, AMD's FX-55 and 4000 CPUs can take power hungry fans first. If you think next year will be better for Intel, you are wrong. It might even be worse. Since AMD plans to have dual cores next year, Intel had to change their plans from 2006 to 2005 and quicken their pace. What will this mean? Most likely there will be even more problems with Intel's version of dual cores. Also, they first have to get their 4GHz and 4.2GHz for next year. And we all know the FX-57 and 4400 will eat those CPUs up. AMD will hit dual cores mid-2005. They will be labeled as the killer K9s. This is where Intel hurts even more. While Intel will just add dual cores, AMD will do much more. You get dual cores plus dual memory controllers plus much more cache. Intel hurts in high quantity CPU configurations because they only have one memory controller. 800MHz DDR2 for Intel will allow them to double their performance if programs support dual CPUs. AMD, however, will double their performance for programs that do not support dual CPUs and will 4x it for programs that do support dual CPUs. So if you thought this year was bad for Intel, next year will surprise you 10x more.

Yes, Dell will help Intel live on. But with a new person in charge and many AMD sightings on their website, we can't say for certian that Dell will remain only Intel forever.
