My 56k modem (An Aztech systems LTD MDP3900 V-U(B) modem) is frequently disconnecting me. It started a little over a month ago, and at that time, it had been disconnecting me approximately every 45 minutes. Since just a few days ago, it has been disconnecting me every approximately 32 minutes. I have tried adding extra settings; I edited the init string through Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >> Modems >> Properties >> Connection >> Advanced >> Extra settings, to try and counter the problem. This hasn't worked. The modem was originally connected through a phone. I separated the two. That didn't work either.
I'm in need of just a few more suggestions perhaps, or maybe if someone knows what the actual problem is. I expect that it's either the speed of the modem (I can't get it to slow down, despite setting the maximum speed to 38400, it remains at 45333), it's my ISP, it's the phone company, or, more likely, there's a problem with the modem or the computer.
This problem is very detrimental to my internet habits, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Frequent Disconnect
The best way to diagnose this is to take the modem, place it in a friends computer in another neighborhood, and try to dial to you isp. If that does not work then the problem is either with the modem or ISP. You could try putting the modem in a different slot, cleaning your system of spyware, and plugging it into a different jack.
