Windows XP logon time
Windows XP logon time
When I log in on windows XP pro, for some reason it takes ages to load up. It stays at the blue logging in screen for some time before it actually loads my desktop etc, and i have tried disabling the Background Intelligent Transfer 'thing' which allegedly speeds up logging on time. Can anyone help me with this? this has only happened recently (For about 3 weeksish now) and I can't pin point the problem. Thanks

I've never had this problem before and the last thing i want to do is reformat. I only have about progs which start on startup, and there is no reason why it should do this. Thanks for your time but i might just leave it the way it is

You probably have spyware. Download the latest version of Ad-aware and Spybot. Update them and run them once a week. Also, download SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard. These programs act as firewalls to spyware.
Spyware is like a virus that infects your computer, slows it down, and could even display personal data all over the internet.

Spyware is the #1 problem with computers. 90% of computers that enter the shop are corrected with a spyware scan.

That is why I recommend that you try alternatives to Windows which will not fill up with spyware.
Note to Windows (and Linux) users: do not use a user account with Administrative privileges (super user or root account for Linux) for day to day tasks. You have a much higher chance of getting malware.

But you don't have to switch to Linux if you are smart and take the precautions.

Ok, I have 768Mb RAM total, 256 PC2700 @ 166Mhz and 512 PC2100 @ 133Mhz
I doubt it is a problem with that as i have had that setup for way before the problem started to occur, thanks for the replies everyone
