w2247 e-Machine mod help needed.

Post by Amano Jyuku »

I have no idea of finding out my mother boards agp capability... like 4x/8x
I visited the e-Machine website to find out, but they aren't much help. Well I am 25% sure that it isn't 8x... I just want to get a better video card... atm it's running games fine... I am very surpised that it works so. I had a copy of Windows XP and installed it over the Copy that had all the preinstalled useless software. I have two hard-drives so I can format and save information... I wanted to buy the shuttle... but I don't want to waste the money... I am not however a novice of a computers inards... I want to get a motherboard... but at that point i just don't know what to do... I have a socket A proccessor, would I have to replace the processor as well? Ok let's start from the beginning... lets say if I cant get a brand new video card because my mother board sucks.... I would like to get a mother board without having to get anything else I have a soundcard, I have a video card, I have a proccessor, I have the ram, a lan card... Having all this stuff would make a motherboard cheaper right? I'm just confused atm I need a response to act upon to give the right information :p

New motherboard for the W2247, sounds easy, doesn't it? Well, lol, it was rough for me. I had the same machine, and have modded the crap out of it.

First, the default mobo on the W2247 has 4x agp, not 8x, so the video card you have isn't running at it's full capability on that board. If you are going to replace the mobo, as I would definitely suggest, you will need a Windows XP CD to do a repair installation after you have replaced it. Newegg.com has great deals on mobos, especially when you don't need to buy integrated video. The problem with a new mobo, however, is the fact that the emachines cases are like ultra-super mini atx, so you will need to buy a new case, which is easy too. The work involved in what you're doing is definitely worth the result....

Also, you wouldn't have to get any new 'innards', as long as the Mobo you buy is built to take the ram you have and the Socket A cpu. I recommend the Shuttle AN35(N) Ultra as a cheap, fast mobo.

Lol the search probably found my topic, which I started a while back, on the exact same thing you are doing now. Lol just don't make my mistake and short circuit that mobo when you put it in, it cost me a lot of time and energy. Thankfully, tho, Newegg has a great replacement policy..... good luck

What did you get? I will probably get the same thing lol... As in cases and mobos and anything else vital... like the power supply?

Cases are a personal thing, i spent like 30 bux on a goofy blue lighted thing but as for power supplies they're all pretty much the same, though one with 300 watts or more is good, and you want it to be quiet. I spent 20 bux and the thing clanks like a diesel engine.

I always thought power supplies were a big issue, I thought you had to measure the system and get the correct power supply, well that's a relief I suppose, anyway what is that button on the power supply, you can switch the power outage... that can fuck up a computer right? well what the eff yo? HAHAHA

I would also like to ask how much did you spend to spruce up your computer,,, excluding the things that you currently had... im talking about after you got the case, what did you get and how much did you spend.

I didn't spend more than 100 dollars after upgrading the board, I already had my Radeon 9200 and 2 sticks of ram, power supply, as well as my 2 HDD and processor. I really just bought my mobo (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 045&depa=1)
as well as my goofy case
(http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 023&depa=1)

It's not really very good looking, though it does look kinda cool in those pictures. Only the front is actually painted... the rest in plastic and rather poor looking...
:?

I was thinking of buying either a new processor (2800+ or 3200+) or another piece of 512 MB ram, but that's for Half-Life 2 and Battlefield 2...

Edit: That link you posted above is actually for an Intel Processor. With an AMD processor you need a Socket A Motherboard.

I noticed that when I first seen it, i would have not purchased it anyway... that thing makes me skeptical.

By the way how did you short circut your motherboard?

lol noobie mistake I actually mounted the mobo DIRECTLY ONTO THE METAL CASE, thus short circuiting the whole board in such a way as to make it and my cool, neon blue power supply completely useless, yet not destory my more integral system components..... Later on I would notice the protective screw design and realize my failure. I'll chalk that one up to amatuer mistakes and a poorly worded help manual... All's well that ends well, however....

I'm going to buy the things you did... to be safe ... but i'm also going to buy a 9800 pro or something... I hope I overclock them well... I never did before  I am however afraid to release my debit information

I'm no electrical engineer, but I'm fairly sure that if you correctly wire any sufficient power supply it will work. I'm sure one of the other guys here will know the answer.

Well I finally ordered some stuff... i'm a poor mofo so I tried to scrounge some money up... tell me how much my choices suck

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... WSE&depa=0 to replace my 5200FX that I stole from wal-mart lol... I bought the 5700 that looked like it had the best cooling on it so i can try to overclock it :/
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... WSE&depa=0
So I can overclock the proccessor... I never overclocked anything before and I can't wait to learn... lol
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... WSE&depa=0 as a case, seems well ventilated... it comes with a 420 watt PS, thought i should change mine, besides its a factory one and it's getting really dusty and i'm getting the same mobo as you since we had the same computer.... by the way, where did you get your emachines from and how much did you pay? I got mine from Wal-Mart and paid 400 hahaha :p but I stole a few extra items, which i'll never do again because the security alarm went off on me and I ran away, it made me feel alive yo!

I think that problem you had with your computer before was that your video card and mother board as a combination sucked... i'm just bored surfing around
