Overclocking my CPU...

OK, I'm not sure this board has a forum specifically for this, though I've looked and I've decided to post it here

Before all - here's my Specs

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

AMD Athlon XP, 1666 MHz (12.5 x 133) 2000+
Jetway V333PRO/V333U (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 1 CNR, 3 DIMM, Audio)
VIA VT8367 Apollo KT333
768 MB (DDR SDRAM)
BIOS Type - Award (09/23/02)

When I go into my BIOS to overclock my CPU - After going into the miscellanious *sp* part it lists a bunch of voltages which I can use for my CPU to run at. There's somthing like -

-Default
-1.25
-1.50
-1.75
-2.00

about that andit goes on a bit. I'm not sure about the 1 part, but I know there's a .25 there and it goes up in .25's. After selecting the 6.25 option, i'd restart and it would load up just before the screen which says 'Windows XP Pro' with the scrolling bar thing. Then it comes up with an error which doesn't allow me to progress any further, so i have to have it on default.

Can anyone help me with this? I'd be very greatful as I really want to overclock my CPU, thanks

This looks like your first overclock. Let this mistake not make it your last.
First, let us get some terms down.

FSB:
Incoming data rate.
Overclock this first.
For you, raise it to 166MHz.
Cons. - Will raise your temperature and use your voltage supply.

Multiplier:
FSBxMultiplier=GHz.
Overclock this second.
You might want to set it to 10 before you overclock your FSB to give a 0 overclock effect.
Then go up 1 at a time till you cannot start up (10,11,12...)
Cons. - Will raise your temperature and use your voltage supply.

Voltage:
Watts given to CPU.
Do not raise this unless if you can afford losing your CPU.
Cons. - Will raise your temperature and make an unstable electro magnetic field, destroying all of your CPU's transistors.

I would guess that you can have a FSB of 166MHz and a multiplier of 12.

Ok, thanks for the great reply.

What I've got so far is that I have to raise my 'Host clock' to 166Mhz as that is the only Mhz related option in my BIOS and looks to be the FSB. However, I can't find the multiplier

I've looked through my BIOS and all I've found is nothing related to a multiplier. On the page / section on which I can change the FSB / Host clock speed of my CPU, there's nothing to do with the multiplier. Thanks for your time

PS - My current multiplier looks like it's 12.5X according to everest home edition
