LOL yeah, that's the truth. Maybe criminals would be more retiscent to commit crimes if our prisons weren't so accomodating... Stop arresting people for drug possession and make our prisons fit for real criminals.

Theres a subtle difference between letting people see the consequences of their actions and using human life as entertainment. Televising those things crosses the line (in my mind) into cruel and unusual punishment.

I don't believe in executing the convicted, since I am a Catholic.
Also, executing them is too merciful.
Pain on earth is much more just.

I agree completely, I believe execution is cruel and unusual punishment and that a life of remorse, guilt and shame would be far worse than a few years of death row and a quick, violent end. People say America's prisons are too full to accomodate more life-terms, a problem easily solved by not sending people to prison for possession or sale of drugs. Fines would be just as effective (Which isn't saying much) as the prison sentences we issue, which take our money to keep them clothed, fed and housed. I say, take their money instead of ours, and free American prisons and taxpayers of their unneccessary burden.

thats all fine and dandy but there is one problem with your solution

fines do absolutely nothing, in fact, fining a person is actually a benefit to them, and let me explain how

our current system of money, the printed dollar bill, is issued by the federal reserve, a private orginization and then lended to the government at intrest who then uses it to pay for debts

this dollar bill represents the american economy

america owes more money than it currently has

therefore, the dollar bill represents that condition of having less than 0 money

the more dollar bills you have, the more of the debt you possess

by getting rid of the dolllar bills, you are getting rid of debt

so by paying fines, you are getting more money

how can getting more money be a punishment?

No matter what the debt is, the value of the American dollar is fairly static. America's good credit keeps it from falling the way other currency forms will. Yes, there is a national debt, but that doesn't cause inflation the way it does in other nations.

Fines would be effective because -

A) Drug dealers deal drugs for money
B) Less drug violence due to decreased threat, less drug cops would be shot doing their job if the penalty were less severe.
C) Less tax money spent on upkeep for prisons and penitentiaries, money that could be spent reinforcing America's porous borders that allow not only drugs but weapons and people to pass unfettered.
