Web Hosting

Ok, I'm not new to web designing, but I'm quite new to the whole hosting ith 'proper' domains. I have had loads of .cjb.net's, angeltowns, geocities accounts and more, but I've never had an account which you pay for.

Could someone please give me a process in hosting Like first, you have to register the domain, then reserve space to host your files on etc.

PS - can anyone give me the link to a reliable host service please? Like UK2.net or somthing, thanks

First thing is you purchase service from a company, they will usualy sell you a domain to go with the website. (The hosting is paid on a monthly bases while the domain is payed for once a year). After this is set up, you will be sent your cpanel information, and ftp information.. In the cpanel, you can do things such as set up MySQL servers, email accounts, monitor your bandwitdth ect. With the FTP, you upload your files(images, and HTML) into the Public_HTML folder so people can access your website. Your first page should be labeled like such of the following examples (index.html, index.htm, index.php, main.html, or main.htm). This will redirect your domain to that front page and you will be set..
