Stripped BIOS

I've read several places that some OEMs have stripped BIOS to cut down on service problems. I have a gateway with XP Home and have only limited BIOS. Can this be restored? I've tried all the del,tab,f1,f2,f10,esc,etc. My roomate has full BIOS on an emachine with XP pro, is this the difference? I know I screwed myself on the purchase but was my 1st pc, now I know better.
